Professor Gos Micklem
Group Leader
Department of Genetics & Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics
Biography
Gos Micklem carried out a PhD (MRC-LMB) and postdoctoral research (CR-UK) in molecular biology, followed by computational biology at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute and a four-year stint in a successful biotech startup, Since 2002, with support from the Wellcome Trust, EPSRC, NIH and BBSRC his group has worked on many collaborative large-scale data integration and bioinformatics projects and some smaller-scale wet-lab projects. From 2005-2014 he co-organised the Cambridge team for the International Genetically Engineered Machines (iGEM) undergraduate summer competition in synthetic biology.
Research
Gos enjoys interdisciplinary projects using computational and molecular techniques related to biology.
A major activity has been working as part of the open source community on projects such as the InterMine data integration platform.
Current interests include:
- antimicrobial resistance
- synthetic biology
- large-scale data integration
- machine learning related to the above
