Engineering Biology in Cambridge

Café Synthetique is the monthly meetup for the Cambridge synthetic biology community with informal talks, discussion and pub snacks.

VERTICAL AI WORKFLOWS IN BIOENGINEERING
Francesco Ciriello, Education Customer Success Engineer at MathWorks

Join us for a short talk dedicated to the application of machine and deep learning algorithms to bio-engineering systems. In this session, I will run through a complete workflow examples for the classification of a ECG signal to detect abnormalities in a heart signal.

Machine learning is a data analytics technique that teaches computers to do what comes naturally to humans and animals: learn from experience. Machine learning algorithms use computational methods to “learn” information directly from data without relying on a predetermined equation as a model. Using MATLAB, engineers and other domain experts have deployed thousands of applications for predictive maintenance, sensor analytics, finance, and communication electronics.

About the presenter:
Dr Francesco Ciriello is an Education Customer Success Engineer at MathWorks specialized in machine learning and image processing applications for embedded systems.

Followed by:

SMART MICROSCOPY
A discussion about the opening of a new shared space for microscope hardware and software development in Cambridge - with contributions from local microscopy facilities. Somenath Bakshi (Smart Microscopy space, Engineering), Kevin O'Holleran (Cambridge Advanced Imaging Centre), Alex Sossick (Gurdon Institute), Steffi Reichelt (CRUK), Matt Wayland (Zoology), Jim Haseloff (Plant Sciences & SLCU for Ray Wightman).
