About
Causes and Consequences of Mutation, taking place 10:45-16:00, Thursday 19th June in St Catharine’s College.
Mutation is a fundamental biological process that provides the raw material for evolution and underlies a broad spectrum of diseases. Across Cambridge, many groups are working on diverse aspects of mutations and their consequences.
To foster connections and spark new ideas, we are organising a cross-departmental event bringing together group leaders working in this area. The aim is to explore how and why mutations occur, and to consider its implications across scales and disciplines.
The event will include short presentations from researchers across a range of departments, alongside ample time for discussion and informal interaction over refreshments and lunch.
Speakers are:
- Adrian Baez-Ortega, Zoology and Genetics
- Steve Jackson, CRUK Cambridge Institute
- Heather Machado, Pathology and Genetics
- Luca Pellegrini, Biochemistry
- Raheleh Rahbari, Wellcome Sanger Institute
- Christopher Ruis, Medicine
- Julian Sale, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology
Discussion topics will include:
- Key unanswered questions in the field
- The unique strengths and gaps within the Cambridge research community
- Opportunities to address these through collaboration, large-scale funding bids, or philanthropic support
We’ll also explore next steps for forming a cross-disciplinary network focused on mutations.
