About
Angelo is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge, working with Dr. Jenny Zhang. He specialises in engineering photosynthetic cyanobacteria as sustainable platforms for solar energy conversion. He completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh with Prof. Alistair McCormick, where he engineered novel fast-growing marine cyanobacteria for carbon capture and bioproduction.
ResearchAngelo’s work spans synthetic biology, microbiology, and electrochemistry, with a current focus on understanding and enhancing extracellular electron transport (EET) in model strains of cyanobacteria. His research aims to inform the development of bio-hybrid photovoltaic and catalytic devices that harness light-driven electron transfer from water oxidationn, a reaction central to semi-artificial photosynthesis. Using an interdisciplinary toolbox, he is aiming to push the boundaries of microbial exoelectrogenesis and explore new ways to couple the biology of photosynthesis with renewable energy technologies.
