The Steve Jackson laboratory (https://www.stevejacksonlab.org/) at the internationally renowned CRUK Cambridge Institute, https://www.cruk.cam.ac.uk/ (University of Cambridge), is seeking to recruit a bright and enthusiastic Research Assistant. The postholder will work alongside experienced postdoctoral research associates to assist with several on-going projects in the lab, exploring cellular mechanisms of DNA damage responses and how sensitivity and resistance arise in different cancer cells and genetic backgrounds in response to ionising radiation and clinically relevant drugs.
The postholder will assist with high-throughput CRISPR-Cas9 screens to explore sensitivity/resistance mechanisms in defined genetic backgrounds, followed by validation and ensuing mechanistic studies. Experience in CRISPR genome editing and/or CRISPR genetic screens is essential, as well as a strong background in cell and molecular biology techniques, tissue culture, and stable cell line generation.
The research assistant will be required to take on other responsibilities, including preparation of reagents, maintenance of lab stocks and assisting in the day-to-day running of the laboratory.
The successful candidate should show initiative and independent thinking, possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a part of a vibrant and diverse team.
