Biography
Dr. Paula Milán-Rois is a Research Associate at the Biochemistry Department in Prof. Eric Miska’s lab, collaborating with Prof. Ljiljana Fruk (CEB department). She holds a Ph.D. in Biology from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where she conducted research at IMDEA Nanociencia under Prof. Álvaro Somoza’s supervision, complemented by a research stay at BIDMC/Harvard Medical School. Her expertise spans molecular biology, nanomedicine, and biomaterials, with a focus on innovative therapeutic approaches. She has contributed to high-impact publications, holds patents, and actively engages in science communication. Her work integrates interdisciplinary strategies to address biomedical challenges.
Research
My research focuses on developing innovative nanomedicine-based therapies for cancer treatment. I specialize in using nanoparticles for the targeted delivery of nucleic acids, particularly long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), and chemotherapeutic drugs to improve therapeutic outcomes. Currently, in the Miska lab at the University of Cambridge, I am exploring the role of lncRNAs in lung cancer and designing human serum albumin nanoparticles (HSA NPs) for efficient oligonucleotide and drug delivery. This interdisciplinary work combines RNA biology and nanotechnology to create more precise and effective cancer treatments. My long-term goal is to establish an independent research group focused on translational nanomedicine and ncRNA-based therapies, contributing to the advancement of personalized medicine.
