Engineering Biology in Cambridge

This workshop will be held to demonstrate a few of the nuances of setting up a cell-free reaction for Cambridge participants in the OpenPlant project- though all are welcome! Get practical hands-on experience of handling cell-free reagents.

More info & RSVP via Meetup >>>

As part of an OpenPlant fund, Quentin Dudley (Patron group, Earlham Institute, Norwich) initiated a project to compare an in-house E. coli CFPS system (~£1 / rxn) and a commercial wheat germ kit (£12 / rxn) to express plant-derived proteins. This project coordinated with Norwich and Cambridge researchers who assembled DNA plasmids encoding proteins useful to their research projects.

This workshop will be held to demonstrate a few of the nuances of setting up a cell-free reaction for Cambridge participants in the OpenPlant project.

All cell-free reagents and a DNA template encoding GFP will be provided for observing participants.

Consider participating in the workshop if you want to:

- Get practical hands-on experience of handling cell-free reagents
- Learn about E. coli, wheat germ, tobacco cell, and Arabidopsis cell-free systems (there will be a 45 minute discussion of the relative merits of each system)
- Explore options about using the OpenPlant fund CFPS systems to express a protein useful to your work
- Make a test-tube turn green!
