Engineering Biology in Cambridge

Join us to build a synthetic biology inspired link in the Cambridge Science Centre's Chain Reaction and finalise planning a family workshop building 3D printed microscopes.

The Cambridge Science Centre is expecting hundreds of families in the Corn Exchange on Sat 6 Dec for Chain Reaction: Destination Space, the latest annual event where schools, groups and companies from around Cambridge build a gigantic Heath Robinson contraption stretching around the hall.

Synthetic Biology Meetup members are invited to get involved on Saturday 5 December 12:00-17:00 with the build process and on Sunday 6 December 11:00-17:00 with linking the chain and running workshops and showcasing Science Makers handiwork.

1. Build a synbio inspired piece of the chain! At a planning meeting on 27 Nov, we designed and ordered parts for a chain link that conforms to the rules and illustrates some biological processes. Come and help us pull it all together!

Please note: we have a build team ticket for 6 people only and places will be first come, first served. Please email [masked] if you'd like a place or you'll need to book your own.

2. Assist Hack Lab with their Hackroscope workshop building 3D-printed microscopes with families attending on the day. We need to ensure all the components and samples are organised, the instruction sheets make sense and there will be enough informed helpers floating around to assist with the tricky parts.
