Professor Alison Smith featured on BBC's The Life Scientific

Alison Smith, Professor of Plant Biochemistry in the Department of Plant Sciences, whose research interests include algal synthetic biology, has been featured on the BBC's The Life Scientific.

In her interview on The Life Scientific, Alison Smith talks to Jim al-Khalili about the many varied uses of algae, as well as their often strange biochemistry and ecology.

Among other topics, they discuss how it is possible to farm algae in order to manufacture a plethora of different chemicals, including biofuels, food stuffs and more. We may become very depended on algae to produce our chemicals once oil resources run out.
