Aaran Vijayakumaran, MRC Toxicology Unit.
'The Nanoscale Architecture Of The Airway Epithelium By Volumetric EM, Deep-Learning Segmentation and Super-Resolution Imaging.'

Bio: Aaran graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of Nottingham with a 1st Class Honours in Physiology, during his final year he assessed the combined effect of non-invasive brain stimulation and robotic training for the neurorehabilitation of stroke patients.

He then moved to King’s College London to do a MRes in Translational Oncology where he graduated with a Distinction. During his time, he investigated an uncharacterised signalling pathway in relation to radio-resistance in Head and Neck squamous cell carcinomas in the Department of Host Microbiome and Interactions. He then moved to the Department of Pharmaceutical Science, where he was part of a spin-out called Apeikon Therapeutics where he developed phase-shift sonoresponsive nanodroplets and an in vitro co-culture model systems for research into metastatic brain cancer.

Aaran started his PhD in April 2022 with Dr Vito Mennella and is applying advanced imaging and omics technologies in combination with deep-learning to understand the tissue and cellular architecture of the airway epithelium and its changes in response to toxicity and disease.
