Dr Alasdair Russell
Head, Pre-Clinical Genome Editing
CRUK Cambridge Institute
Biography
With a background DNA repair, virology and complex stem cell biology, in 2015 I started CRUK's first dedicated genome engineering facility. My team enable genome engineering in complex, patient-relevant settings. In 2020 our team spun out Zygosity, a company that sits at the interface between CRISPR technologies and ML.
Research
My team is a multifunctional team spanning functional genomics, transgenics and pre-clinical in vivo therapeutic studies. We specialise in building complex models of disease to better explore disease mechanisms. This extends to in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo application of CRISPR technologies, at the single gene level and at scale using library-based technologies. We endeavour to take these technologies and translate them in vivo, mirroring the patient pathway as close as possible.
