Engineering Biology in Cambridge

Dr Irina Gostimskaya obtained her undergraduate degree and PhD from Moscow State University where she did research on the respiratory chain of mitochondria, in particular Complex I. After her PhD she worked as a postdoc at The University of Manchester, followed by joining the group of Prof Erwin Reisner at the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry in Cambridge in 2023. She is a biochemist/molecular biologist/cell biologist with experience in enzymology, protein expression, purification, engineering and directed evolution, cellular metabolism and genetic modifications. Recently she got interested in photobiocatalysis and triggering reactions by light - from relatively simple enzymatic conversions to artificial photosynthetic systems. Currently her goal is to design bio/abio systems that can be used for different applications while following multidisciplinary approaches and “green” chemistry processes.
